The importance of branding has long been a fact in the business world, and as the traditional companies are increasing their online visibility to be where their customers are, it isn’t difficult to see why it’s so important to do online branding in an effective manner.

Recognition

Online Branding helps to establish something about your business that customers should take notice of and remember. When a customer has a good experience with your company, you want them to come back again later, and that might not happen if their memories aren’t good enough and your branding isn’t strong enough.

You want them to recall something about your company, slogan, name or logo, all in the hopes that when the time comes for them to return or even recommend you, there is never doubt they have the right company. That is why so much is invested in creating an effective marketing message.

A truly good online branding campaign can lead to the kind of success that would allow you to include just your logo, merely use your color scheme, even just your slogan to instantly allow Internet users to identify an ad, a Twitter feed or a Facebook site as yours.

Instant recognition also gives your business an air of legitimacy over what would be considered no-name brands, which is valuable in a crowded field and in the sometime duplicitous world of the Internet.

Customer Loyalty

Creating the right brand–or even reinventing an old one–can allow you to decide how you want customers to think about you, who you want them to consider as your target audience. If there is a strong enough emotional link, that can create loyalty, and loyal customers are the backbone of any business.

They come to rely on your business, trust it and believe that it knows and relates to them. Just as recognition allows a customer to come back to your company with ease, when a customer has a good experience or gets a good feeling about a business, they are more likely to return and refer you to someone else.

Differentiate or Die

There are dozens of businesses, hundreds possibly, in any given field or industry on the internet. Good branding allows you to stand out from your competitors by narrowly tailoring your website’s look, your ads, even the locations of alternate sites and social media. The more these things resemble and connect with your target audience, the more likely they will take notice of you.

Consistency

The last thing you want is for a would-be customer to click on a banner ad then sent to your site only to think they have ended up in the wrong place. Your ads and your site should tie together; you should have a single, consistent online presence.

This keeps customers from getting confused, and gives wary internet users a level of comfort that they are not accidentally clicking something harmful to their computer or being taken to a site that isn’t legitimate.

Just as it is difficult to stay close to or feel comfortable with a person whose attitudes or opinions waffle and change, it is hard for customers to feel a tie to a business that is always changing its look and message. In this, consistency helps your company to keep its customers, online and off-line.
