There is so much advice online about building more traffic to your website that it is hard to know which information is right for you. It isn’t necessarily that the other guys are giving you bad advice, but that not all of the techniques will work for all types of websites. However, one strategy that works well for a variety of industries is keywords.
Why Keywords Work
Search engines like Google are the biggest sources of sending more traffic to your blog. Keywords are a search engine optimization strategy that you can apply to the content of your site. Once you’ve researched which keywords will likely drive the most traffic to your website, then you can start using them.
Use them as part of a dynamic blog post title, content on the webpage itself, and image alt-tags. While you should limit the amount of different keywords you use on a single webpage, you can do things like use multiple pages, multiple websites, or even post guest content elsewhere in order to get the benefit of as many keywords as possible.
Listen to Advice from the Pro’s
Even experts who make a living coaching others on how to promote their website with the latest marketing technology give away an extraordinary amount of content. This content could be in the form of a special report, YouTube video, or a podcast. One such podcast is the Affiliate Buzz, hosted by James Martell. In one online interview, Dr. Jeri Anderson spoke about her own long history with using keywords to increase traffic to her website.
She gave the advice, “If somebody comes to me for low back pain, I’m a low back pain chiropractor. That’s what people think of me as. They don’t necessarily get that I could help with their wife’s headaches or child’s asthma. But I can put content on my site, have it roll seamlessly into a newsletter that’s pumped out to all my patients that wish to have it, and if I write great content that has value to people then they want the newsletter.”
And she’s absolutely right. Regardless if it’s an executive working from a glass l-shaped desk or someone surfing the web from their iPad, people want quality content. If you use WordPress correctly, taking advantage of plugins to help with keywords for example, then you can schedule the content to self-publish on a regular basis. As people read Dr. Jeri’s content, they realize she can help with things like migraines and asthma. The same will happen with readers in regards to the content that you regularly post to your own site.
The 3-Ingredient Recipe for a Higher Ranking
Dr. Jeri uses a type of recipe for getting more traffic for her website. It has three ingredients, and when used in conjunction with one another the end results are out of this world. Here are the three ingredients along with some of her comments about each one.
- Keyword-driven Content – Dr. Jeri says she never planned ahead when she first started out. Now, she uses keywords in the description, in the title, and anywhere else that applies. Her suggestion to other business professionals is, “Think about the end result of your content before you even write it.”
- Credible Reviews – “This one is huge,” she explains. “We always ask of our patients that if they love us, please tell the world by leaving us a review. And if you don’t love us, please give us a chance to make that right. People don’t think of leaving a review on their own, so ask for them.”
- Use Backlinks – Backlinks are sites that link back to your pages. Dr. Jeri remarked, “You want to have pages for keywords that are important to you, and make sure you’re getting links back into those pages. The fact that you constantly have fresh content coming on helps you rise to the top.”
Someone as successful as Dr. Jeri gets a lot of referrals from patients, and even from other doctors. However, she says you’ll get more referrals from being online. If someone who is familiar with you is at a social event, they might bring up your business to another person. Whether that person writes the information down or not, they’re more likely to turn to Google and search for information. In this way, you are increasing your referrals through word-of-mouth, because the keyword-driven content you’ve posted online makes it easier for them to find you.
